Located 45 km to the south-east of Perth the small town of Jarrahdale sits within the Darling Range. It holds a historic position as it had Western Australia’s first major timber milling operation that would go on to help the development of exportation of Jarrah around the world. Originally the Jarrahdale Timber Company constructed a railway to transport timber from Jarrahdale through to Rockingham. Once timber concessions had been granted the town was founded in 1872. In 1895 the locality was destroyed by a bushfire and had to be relocated west of its original position. The Jarrahdale townsite was entered on the National Trust List of Classified Heritage places on 14th of July 1997, the seventh town in Western Australia to be classified as such.
