What is a switchboard?

A switchboard is a panel of switches that works by distributing power to different areas of your home or business. They work by dividing the properties’ main electrical power supply into smaller components which are then transported to items like your power outlets, panels and other electrical equipment and appliances. Although a properly working switchboard does a fantastic job of distributing and separating electrical current, it still needs to be fitted with safety devices such as a Residual Current Device (RCD) and a Circuit Breaker that will save your life due to an incorrect distribution of current (RCD’s) and from faulty wiring causing fires in your property.

Why is it important to check and maintain my electrical switchboard?

Safety is number one. Switchboards in older structures will eventually reach an age where they will require an upgrade. If your switchboard is faulty, you may be experiencing frequent power trips, burning smells and flickering lights. After 2000. all new homes in Western Australia are legally required to be fitted with a minimum of two RCD’s. If your property was built prior to 2000 it is important that you call Ritz Plumbing & Electrical today so we can come and inspect your property and provide you with solutions on upgrading your switchboard!
